The Chief Architect is responsible for providing overall architectural leadership across the enterprise. A Chief Architect is responsible for developing a business focus for IT programs by assuming responsibilities for making critical architecture recommendations across business units and functional areas. A Chief Architect may have several enterprise, domain and solutions architects reporting directly or indirectly to him/her.
This office provides the leadership across the 3 architecture components. There are many points which require collaborative activities and the participants in this office will provide facilitation and content during key working sessions. They are the most experienced in architecture implementation with the skills to facilitate and mentor as well as to work with the architecture executive stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Commercial Accountabilities
- Recommends investment decisions after considering the financial impact associated with various business decisions.
- Establish and maintain an integrated architectural framework across and within business domains.
- Develop and maintain a tactical architecture implementation plan addressing all elements of the architectural framework.
- Represent overall architecture to customers, vendors and other groups within the organization
Relationship Management Responsibilities
- Develops relationships with vendors and customers and manages them over a period of time.
Technical Accountabilities
- Is familiar with current and emerging technology as it relates to the target architectures of the enterprise. Specific knowledge of infrastructure and Service Oriented Architectures.
Capability Development Responsibilities
- Is responsible for the overall architecutre developed as part of the strategy
- Responsible for tactical architecture and its implementation
- Mentors, ensures knowledge management, contributes to initiatives, improves processes and performance
Skills/Knowledge Requirements

- Sound understanding of the corporate business strategy and industry direction. Has a broad knowledge of a number of business domains.
