The Data Governance Council will help develop and monitor the overall plan for improving Data Governance. The Data Governance Council provides operational leadership on the project, by dealing with issues as they arise and providing proactive solutions to resolving potential problems. Some individuals on the group (such as the Executive Sponsor) may not be involved on a daily basis, but all are dedicated enough to the project that it is their primary focus.

Data Stewards play a key role on the Council as the caretakers of information and are responsible for driving its improvement. The role of Data Stewards overlaps into the Delivery Team.
