Data Mastering Model

The Data Mastering Model governs the exchange of information between applications by defining the rules for data ownership of a particular business event. This is needed to address the complexity of redundant data in a number of applications for multiple entities across the enterprise. Business Services use this metadata to mediate the flow of information between systems. The logical rules for Data Mastering are defined in relation to application roles as primary master, secondary masters, and slaves of data:

  • The Primary Master is a system having ownership of an event and is seen as the authority on this data. There may not always be a primary master for an event and there can never be more than one primary master
  • The Secondary Master has the ability to update relevant elements, but only on reconciliation from the Primary Master and other Secondary Masters.
  • A Slave cannot update, and is only a receiver of data changes

The DMM rules are defined in relation to CMM Message events.
