Initial Scope for Metadata Management Deliverable Template

From MIKE2 Methodology

Jump to: navigation, search
This deliverable template is used to describe a sample of the MIKE2.0 Methodology (typically at a task level). More templates are now being added to MIKE2.0 as this has been a frequently requested aspect of the methodology. Contributors are strongly encouraged to assist in this effort.
Deliverable templates are illustrative as opposed to fully representative. Please help add examples to this template that are representative of the proposed output.

Overview

The Initial Scope for Metadata Management focuses on trying to capture only a subset of the metadata, stored across all components in the architecture, as proof of moving to a metadata-driven architecture. The strategic requirements for Information Development define the overall scope of how metadata will be managed.

Reference Metadata Model

The reference model below can be used to help shape the metadata captured as part of an initiative.

Example of the Initial Scope for Metadata Management

Metadata management activities undertaken for this project have been directed towards the "Tactical" MIS Transformation Solution environment only. Therefore, the metadata collection process, data model and related repository being deployed as part of this project have been designed in order to meet the current needs of this particular solution. While the metadata solution is extendable, it will be considered successful if it meets the immediate needs of the project team as they relate to the planning, delivery and on-going maintenance of the MIS Solution.

The metadata to be collected by as a result of this effort will focus primarily on the definitions of the KPI’s that will be created and the coding rules that are required to transform data from Company source systems (existing systems) via an extract, transform and load (ETL) process into meaningful data in the target solution. Data related to the initial source data, the transformation processes, target database(s) and KPI metrics are considered to be in scope for metadata collection efforts.

From a logical perspective, the project environment is illustrated below.
