Managed Data Governance Organisation

From MIKE2.0 Methodology

Jump to: navigation, search

A Managed Data Governance Organisation is focused across the enterprise, servicing a number of programmes or multiple information-centric initiatives. This organisation may be physical or virtual but it has some dedicated members.

A Managed Data Governance Organisation in similar to a Proactive Data Governance Organisation in that it is focused on addressing issues before they occur through Continuous Improvement, Ongoing Monitoring and Root Cause Analysis. The major difference is that a Managed Data Governance Organisation is able to acheive this capability at a larger scale across Enterprise.

From a technology perspective, these organisations have a well-implemented set of Foundation Capabilities for Information Development and Foundation Capabilities for Infrastructure Development. They have made significant moves to advanced capabilities such as Services Oriented Architecture as part of a model of Continuous Improvement and they will have already implemented some projects in this area.

Organisational Model

The Organisational Model for the Managed Data Governance Organisation has 4 major sets of roles and responsibilities at the leadership level:

  • Data Governance Council - operational leadership and key delivery roles
  • System of Record Owners - stewards, owners and leaders of information as it reside in source systems
  • Common Information Owners - stewards and owners of master data and enterprise analytical data
  • Analysts - shared business and technology resources across the programme to address business requirements, technical analysis and data quality improvement from a design, delivery and ongoing operations perspective

The architecture team is also a key aspect of this organisation. The architecture team for a Managed Data Governance Organisation is similar to that in a Optimal Data Governance Organisation.
