What is MIKE2.0

MIKE2.0 (Method for an Integrated Knowledge Environment) is an Open Source delivery methodology for Enterprise Information Management MIKE2.0 is a comprehensive methodology (648 significant articles so far) that can be applied across a number of different projects within the Information Management space, including those that apply to:

• Information Governance

• Data Quality Improvement

• Data Integration

• Data Migration (once-off batch migration and parallel runs)

• Data Warehousing

• Master Data Management

• IT Transformation

• Enterprise Search

• Enterprise 2.0

While MIKE2.0 was initially focused around structured data, the goal of MIKE2.0 is to provide a comprehensive methodology for Information Development. This means that MIKE2.0 will provide coverage of the following Solution Offering areas:

• Business Intelligence Solutions that involve the analysis, presentation and delivery of information to business users.

• Information Asset Management Solutions provides the mechanism to manage information as an asset. It helps organisations treat their information with the same priority as other assets by making sure it is properly stored and kept secure.

• Access, Search and Content Delivery Solutions that provide integrated access to information and delivering it in the most effective fashion to business users through a variety of channels.

• Enterprise Data Management Solutions which are focused on building the infrastructure and 'info-structure' at an enterprise level.

• Enterprise Content Management Solutions that cover the management of unstructured and semi-structured content, such as office documents, images, audio, video and web sites

• Information Strategy, Architecture and Governance Solutions take a strategic view of Enterprise Information Management, providing the vision for change and establishing the new governance organisation.

Composite Solutions brings together Core Solution Offerings across Offering Groups. Composite solution offerings are next-generation solutions that provide advanced information-centric capabilities.

Whilst some of the offerings are less mature, the SAFE Architecture is comprehensive in its coverage of the component capabilities in each of these areas. In addition, the current form of the Overall Implementation Guide does provide a number of activities that can be applied equally to semi-structured, unstructured content and the "front-end" capabilities of Business Intelligence. Supporting Assets and initially proposed Solution Offerings have been added to cover all of these areas and Contributors are strongly encouraged to add to this area as well.

In summary, MIKE2.0 is primarily a technology-focused methodology related to Enterprise Information Management, which can be used to provide Business Solution Offerings. Solutions are defined at a logical level, but can be mapped to specific technologies.
